Home Workshop Tool Reviews Woodworking Articles Projects

My motivation for creating this article was to help members that are new to the woodnet.net forums.  Posting pictures is really a straightforward process for those who are used to things like URLs, UBB code, etc.  For the uninitiated, this should tell you everything you need to know.

???

Sadly, I can not help you with the first step.  The first step is to take a digital picture and get it onto your computer.  The ideal way to do this is to buy a digital camera.  However, if you don't have a digital camera your local Kodak processing center, CVS, Wal-Mart, etc. can take your film and give you a cd-rom filled with digital images.
Woodnet.net will not store your pictures.  Instead, you have to find another website that will host your photos and allow remote linking (the ability to display an image on site A even though it's hosted on site B.).  There are a lot of places to upload your photos but most do not allow remote linking.  Fortunately, woodworkersweb.com is run by a woodnet forum member, GalenUnder the grey bar, on the right side of the screen, click on register.
Read the text and agree to being over 13 years of age.
Next, you need to fill out the form.  Only the first four fields need to be filled out.  However, filling out the entire form would be a nice thing to do.  After this, wait for the confirmation email.
When the confirmation email arrives you need to click on the hyperlink to activate your account.
Your next step is to login.  If you don't log in you can't name your gallery. If you can't name your gallery you'll have a very hard time finding it again.
Click on "Woodworkers Image Gallery".  It's toward the top of the screen and highlighted in white in this picture.  Next, click on "woodworker's user image gallery".  That's the lower left image that's only partially visible on the screen.
Now you're ready to create your own gallery.  You start by clicking on "new nested gallery".  It's above the pictures on the right of the screen.
Where it reads, "[captions] [properties] [permissions] etc. etc." click on properties and insert an album title. This is important, albums without titles may be removed by the WoodworkersWeb administrator.
In the right center of this picture you'll find a link the reads "add photos".  Click on that.
The step above will launch a pop up window.  You can either choose the files you want to upload (my example uploads one file) or you can choose a directory of files by filling up the lower part of the form.  For my example, I'll click the upload now button next.
When the files are uploaded and processed click on the Dismiss button.
Go back to your browser window and click on reload (or use the F5 button) to reload the page.  You'll see smaller versions of the images that you uploaded.  Click on the image that you want to see in its full size. (That "clicking" step is often overlooked)

Mozilla Users Only (IE users skip this step)

If you use mozilla as your browser, you can simple right click on the image and choose "Copy Image Location".

Internet Explorer Users Only (Mozilla users skip this step)

If you use Internet Explorer (most people do) there are two steps to getting the image location.  The first is to right click on the image and choose "Properties".

Internet Explorer Users Only (Mozilla users skip this step)

The next step is to highlight the location of the image and copy it into the clipboard.  This is done by either pressing "Ctrl-C" or right clicking on the highlighted text and choosing copy.

Now over at woodnet.net, create a new thread.  When you're ready to embed your image, click on the image link below the text box you normally type into.  It's in the top row on the right.
When you click on the image a window will pop up and you'll be asked for the location of the image.  Press "Ctrl-V" here to copy the location of the image into the box.  It should still have the location (URL) of the image over at Woodworker's Web.  If it doesn't, open another browser, go there, and try the directions described two or three steps up.

This will add UBB code to your message.  It should look something like this: [image]http://www.woodworkersweb.com/...cherryBed.sized.jpg[/image] (I replaced some of the URL with ...)

That will tell the application to go get the image from Woodworker's Web.

Click on continue and preview your thread.  You should see your image embedded in your message.  If it's all ok, click on "Continue" one more time and viola, you're all done.
